The Sovereignty of God and Calvary Community Church

Introduction:

How would you define the term, ‘Sovereignty of God?’

Let me explain what it means?

Dr. J.I. Packer said; “that divine sovereignty embraces everything that comes into the biblical picture of God as both Lord and King in his world, “the one who works all things after the counsel of His will,” Ephesians 1:11. He directs everything for fulfilling of His eternal plan.”

Dr. R.C. Sproul said, “God owns what He makes and rules what He owns.” “God is the only absolute and omnipotent ruler of the universe and is sovereign in creation, providence and redemption.”

Now what does this mean to us as Calvary Community Church?

Text:  Isaiah 40:27-31 English Standard Version (ESV)

27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord,

and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Outline:

Since the sovereignty of God has been clearly defined as the ultimate ruler ship of God, how does it apply to us as Calvary Community Church?

  1. We need to embrace the fact that God is still in control of this church.

Isaiah 40:27

27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”?

  1. We must remember God is much bigger than we think.

Isaiah 40:28

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

  1. We absolutely must make our confession of faith, God we need you.

Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
