How Can We Develop a Deep and Intimate Faith?

Introduction:

How can we develop a deep and intimate faith? I mean, is it possible to come to know God who is closer to us than our next breath, pulse or heart beat?

I am beginning a series this morning on this very subject. This is exciting because it is my passion to know Him. It is my very heart’s desire.

Earlier this week the phrase, “wait upon Him” kept coming to my mind from Isaiah 40. Let us begin there with this phrase and read together, Isaiah 40:28-31, to see what this concept has to do with developing a deep and intimate faith. The Bible says; Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Outline:

  1. What does it mean to wait upon the Lord?

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

  1. Why is waiting upon the Lord so strategic to deepening my faith?

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

  1. How can I begin this process today?

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

  1. Be honest – Isaiah 40:29-30
  2. Decide – they who wait.
  3. Understand the benefits – renew, mount up, run and walk.
  4. Faith – renew, mount up, run and walk
