What Does the Lord Want from Us?

Introduction:

What does the Lord want from us? Maybe we should ask, what does the Lord want from you and me, personally? Let us answer that questions this morning by reading together Matthew 22:34-40, the Bible says in this passage; 34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

This passage is about Jesus teaching on what God really wants from us all. It is called the Great Commandment. This morning, let us discover what God really wants from us all.

Outline:

  1. To love him exclusively.

Matthew 22:34-37

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

  1. To love others closely and preferably.

Matthew 22:38-40

38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Conclusion:

  1. I know we all love God, so let us tell him so.
  1. Let us all show this love that we have for him every place we go.
  1. After all, this is what our faith in Christ is all about, loving God and loving others.
